Tea as a Cultural Tradition
Tea is more than a beverage. Across continents and generations, it has served as a daily ritual, a moment of pause, and a way of gathering people together. In Peru, Latin America, Asia, and Europe, both traditional teas and herbal infusions have long been enjoyed after meals, during quiet mornings, or as part of a restorative break from the day.
True tea comes from the plant Camellia sinensis, which originated in ancient China and gave rise to green, black, white, oolong, and pu-erh teas, each defined by unique processing techniques and flavor profiles. Herbal infusions, often called tisanes, carry traditions of their own. Chamomile has been widely brewed in Europe, hibiscus in Africa, mint in Morocco, and in Peru, plants such as muña, hierbaluisa, and guanabana leaves have been prepared as warm infusions for generations.
Today, these traditions continue to inspire modern tea culture, blending heritage with new flavors and creative combinations.

The Difference of Loose Leaf Tea
Loose leaf tea offers a noticeably richer sensory experience compared to many conventional tea bags. Because the leaves remain whole or in larger fragments, they are able to fully expand when steeped in water. This natural unfolding releases a broader spectrum of aromas, textures, and flavors.
In contrast, many bagged teas contain finely milled leaves that limit extraction and complexity. Loose leaf tea preserves the structure of the plant and allows drinkers to control the brewing process, adjusting water temperature, steeping time, and leaf quantity to match their taste.
The same principle applies to herbal infusions. Whole botanicals such as flowers, fruits, leaves, and roots are selected not only for flavor, but for the visual beauty and aromatic experience they bring to the cup.
Our Approach to Blending
Our teas are crafted in small batches using whole leaves, visible botanicals, and natural ingredients whenever possible. We focus on balance, aroma, and flavor, avoiding artificial colors and unnecessary additives. Each blend is created to express the character of its ingredients while remaining approachable for everyday enjoyment.
Loose leaf tea also encourages a more intentional brewing ritual. By adjusting steeping time and temperature, drinkers can explore different layers of flavor, and high-quality leaves can often be steeped multiple times. Brewing becomes a moment of presence rather than routine.
Tea has always been about connection: between plants and people, between cultures, and between generations. Our goal is to honor that tradition by offering blends crafted with care, transparency, and respect for the ingredients we use.
Farmer’s Chuyo Adult Teas – FAQ
What are adult teas?
Adult teas are carefully blended teas designed for grown-up palates, often highlighting unique flavors, herbs, or botanicals. Adult teas are unsweetened and more complex, offering layers of aroma, taste, and natural flavors.
Are your teas caffeinated?
It depends on the blend:
- Black and green teas: Contain natural caffeine.
- Herbal or rooibos blends: Naturally caffeine-free.
Each product description specifies caffeine content so you can choose according to your preference.
How does caffeine vary in different teas?
Caffeine levels depend on the type of tea, the part of the plant used, and how it’s processed. Black teas have the most, green teas moderate, and herbal tisanes are naturally caffeine-free. Steeping time and leaf-to-water ratio also affect caffeine content.
What is the difference between black tea, green tea, white tea, and oolong tea?
The main differences come from processing and oxidation:
Black tea: Fully oxidized, rich flavor, darker color, higher caffeine.
Green tea: Unoxidized, lighter flavor, grassy or vegetal notes, moderate caffeine.
White tea: Minimally processed, delicate flavors, lower caffeine.
Oolong tea: Partially oxidized, complex flavor, between green and black tea.
How do I brew your teas?
Brewing instructions vary by type, but general guidelines are:
- Water temperature:
Black tea: 200°F / 93°C
Green tea: 175–185°F / 80–85°C
Herbal teas: 200°F / 93°C - Steeping time:
Black tea: 3–5 minutes
Green tea: 2–3 minutes
Herbal tea: 5–7 minutes
Oversteeping can make the tea bitter; understeeping may result in a weaker flavor.
Can loose leaf tea be re-steeped?
Yes! Many of our teas, especially green, white, and oolong, can be steeped multiple times. Each steeping will produce a slightly different flavor profile, allowing you to enjoy the tea in layers.
Are your teas organic?
We believe honesty matters.
Many of our teas and botanicals are sourced from farms that follow organic and natural growing practices. However, we are not currently a certified organic business.
Because transparency is important to us, any product that is certified organic, or not, will always be clearly stated on the product page and in the ingredient list.
As a small and growing company, we are working toward organic certification. In the meantime, we remain committed to sourcing high-quality ingredients with care, responsibility, and respect for both people and the land.
Do you use natural flavors in your teas?
Yes. Some blends include natural flavors derived from herbs, fruits, or botanicals to enhance aroma and consistency. These are not artificial or synthetic, and they help the true character of each ingredient shine.
Can I add milk, sugar, or honey?
Yes! While our teas are delicious on their own, you can customize your cup with milk, honey, or a sweetener of choice. Stronger herbal blends can also be enjoyed iced for a refreshing alternative.
How should I store my teas?
To preserve freshness and flavor:
- Keep tea in an airtight container.
- Store in a cool, dark place, away from heat, light, and moisture.
- Avoid storing near strong-smelling foods, as tea can absorb odors.
Proper storage helps maintain the natural aromas and taste of each blend.
Can I brew your teas in a teapot or a tea bag?
Yes! Our loose-leaf teas can be brewed in a teapot, infuser, or tea bag. Use the correct leaf-to-water ratio for the best flavor:
- 1 teaspoon (2–3g) per 8 oz / 240 ml of water
Adjust based on your taste preference.
I found a small branch or stem in my tea — is that normal?
Yes! Many of our teas include whole herbs, flowers, and fruits, so occasionally you may see a small stem, branch, or piece of leaf. This is completely natural and does not affect flavor or safety — it’s a sign your tea is crafted from real, whole botanicals.
Do your teas treat any medical conditions or infirmities?
No. Farmer’s Chuyo does not make any claims that our teas treat or cure medical conditions. These teas are crafted for flavor and enjoyment only. For any health concerns, consult a doctor or healthcare professional.
Do Farmer’s Chuyo teas contain GMOs?
No. Our teas are made from natural, non-GMO ingredients, sourced from suppliers who meet strict quality and sustainability standards.
